Picture it: Sperryville on a fall afternoon, subtle breeze fills the air, the mighty Thornton flowing in the background, and you’re wearing your best flannel sipping a pint of locally brewed beer… belly up to the bar this fall 🍻🥂 and follow @risingwaterbrewing for details!

Pardon our dust lately! It’s out with the old, in with the new heating & cooling — a big undertaking with our partners at Duct-Rite Mechanical. “Beautification” to follow.. stay tuned!

TL;DR -- The sewer authority is raising rates substantially, which will impact Sperryville businesses like those at the Schoolhouse. Our LTE in this week's Rappahannock News outlines why you should care. The public comment period is Thursday, April 10 at 5:30pm at the Sperryville Rescue Squad. We hope you’ll join us.

On March 13, RCWSA proposed increasing monthly EDU fees from $60 to $88 a month (a 46% increase after a 20% increase last year) and connection fees to $15,000 for a building’s first EDU and $7,500 for each thereafter (a 100% increase in both instances).
Rappahannock residents shop, dine, buy groceries, exercise, play golf, get a haircut and massage and have their car serviced – right in Sperryville. The more a business needs to pay to exist, the more their products or services will increase for you, the customer.
We’re not suggesting that sewer fees remain the same indefinitely. But 46% and 100% increases – at one time – will impact all system users, whose investment and tax dollars contribute to the local economy, school system and community spirit. They, like the sewer system, are essential to Sperryville.
We encourage RCWSA to work with the Sperryville community to find solutions that are transparent and sustainable for everyone.

One year of getting things done & having fun!
OK, not all of it has been “fun,” but we’ve enjoyed hearing your memories of the Schoolhouse, tidying the grounds and hidden storage corners, accomplishing some visible and many behind-the-scenes updates, and understanding the scope of maintaining the historic charm while accommodating necessary modern-day improvements. Needless to say, we can’t wait to share more (and bigger!) projects in 2025.

Sneak peek at our first renovated classroom! Here, we’re welcoming @svbsalon to the second floor of the Schoolhouse, opening December 9 by appointment 💇♀️💇♂️
These pictures are merely a glimpse at the before, during, and after that will happen for each of the eight classrooms over time, giving them a fresh and consistent look. It’s fun to share updates that are not strictly behind the scenes or in hideaway areas — thanks for following the journey and come say hello!

Baked goods (and more) now at the Schoolhouse! Welcome @jackaloperidge & friends on Saturday mornings - starting today! - all winter long until @rappcofarmersmarket reopens on the lawn in the spring. Stop by, say hello, and pick up some winter comforts 🍞🥐🫓🍄🟫🥩

A quick 👋 on an 80 degree November day. We have some announcements coming soon… stay tuned and happy fall!

We admit, it’s not the sexiest project. But who doesn’t benefit from a little dirt play and improved drainage? Now, better “backyard” parking for Schoolhouse tenants and more parking lot space for your next visit! 📸 @scottrobertalford

Same old building, excited new owners!
The Schoolhouse has been a central hub of Sperryville for decades and we're honored to be its newest stewards. You'll notice some TLC and maintenance updates happening around the property and we'll have spaces available for rent soon. Please reach out if you're interested.
We look forward to the next chapter of the Sperryville Schoolhouse!
